All the Funniest Reactions to the Boeing Whistleblower Found Dead

Decades after a CIA assassination eclipsed the Pulitzer Prize as journalism’s highest accolade, it appears the aviation world may have adopted a similar honor after a former Boeing whistleblower allegedly died by suicide over the weekend.

On Saturday, ex-quality manager John Barnett was found dead in his truck outside of a hotel in South Carolina of a purportedly self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was 62.

“We understand the global attention this case has garnered, and it is our priority to ensure that the investigation is not influenced by speculation but is led by facts and evidence,” the Charleston Police Department said of Barnett’s death, which is currently under investigation.

Considering the strange timing of this suicide — Barnett died midway through a whistleblower lawsuit against the aviation giant — several had suspicions surrounding his death, including his attorney, Brian Knowles, who urged news outlets to use the word “alleged” in describing his client’s possible suicide.

Yet Knowles was far from alone in these questions. From theories to why Boeing didn't slap him on an Air Max, here are 20 reactions to Barnett’s death.
