Nobody thinks of golf as an extreme sport. In fact, some people (me) struggle to understand how it’s a sport at all. For at least one young woman, however, it’s a downright violent sport, as demonstrated in a recent viral video taken at a driving range.

The video is accompanied by a caption that reads, “When you try using your prosthetic arm for the first time at top golf,” and shows a woman going for a big swing with her club. Unfortunately, instead of hitting the ball at all, the force of her swing dislodges her prosthetic arm and sends it sailing through the air and onto the course.

Commenters were sympathetic, with several expressing astonishment at the fact she managed to hold onto the club despite literally losing her arm during the swing. Others joked about the cost of a visit to Top Golf, with one person commenting, “Top Golf does cost an arm and a leg nowadays,” while someone else called it “probably one of the most expensive top golf experiences of all time.”

According to another video on her page, the golfer in question, Marin, got the arm almost exactly a year ago. It looks like it’s a Hero Arm, a 3D-printed bionic arm produced by Open Bionics in the U.K. In a photo shared at the end of her golfing video, we can see that the arm has been slightly damaged, so hopefully Marin is able to get it repaired or replaced for free or cheap!

And hopefully the engineers over at Open Bionics are hard at work on a solution to ensure their products don’t fly through the air just because someone swung a golf club a little too vigorously.
