California is burning, Louisiana is freezing. What is happening?
If you haven’t been following the weather across the country, you might not know that it’s really, really cold and snowy in the south right now. And no, I’m not doing that thing that Southerners do where they talk about “how cold it is” the second it hits 50. It’s genuinely pretty chilly there, made worse by the fact that the whole region really isn’t prepared to handle this level of snow, ice, and low-temperature weather.
We’ve already seen numerous car accidents from this craziness, but there’s also been some fun parts. For example, people in New Orleans are taking to the snow and ice pretty well, ice skating in the open squares and throwing snowballs on Bourbon Street—though, if you get hit with a snowball made from Bourbon Street snow, you should probably get into a chemical bath ASAP.
